At the opening ceremony, Mr. Agustaviano Sofjan, Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia in Ho Chi Minh City, expressed his hope that “The Indonesia-Vietnam Festival Week will serve as a bridge to foster friendship and strengthen ties between the two countries.”
Over the years, the people of Vietnam and Indonesia have actively promoted their friendship through annual cultural exchange activities. This event will offer participants a vibrant array of cultural experiences, including a culinary exhibition, a showcase of Indonesian products, and an education fair highlighting study opportunities in Indonesia, held in the main lobby of the Children’s Cultural House.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Phạm Dứt Điểm, Deputy Director of Ho Chi Minh City’s Department of External Relations, emphasized, “For Ho Chi Minh City, Indonesia is a key partner. The city values and strives to expand cooperation with Indonesia across various fields, from trade and investment to people-to-people exchanges. In 2023, trade between Ho Chi Minh City and Indonesia accounted for approximately 30% of the total trade volume between Vietnam and Indonesia. This underscores the city’s significant role as a destination for investment and business for Indonesian enterprises.”
“Currently, Indonesia ranks among the top 20 foreign investors in Ho Chi Minh City. Today’s Indonesia-Vietnam Festival Week is a vivid demonstration of the cooperation and solidarity between the two nations. This event not only serves as a bridge to enhance the bonds between the peoples of our two countries but also contributes to fostering bilateral trade and investment partnerships,” Mr. Điểm added.
H.E. Mr. Denny Abdi, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Vietnam, remarked at the event, “To advance mutual development efforts, we must focus on mutually beneficial cooperation, such as enhancing connectivity and fostering a regional ecosystem for the green industry. This will enable us to pursue not only economic growth but also inclusive and sustainable development, which is beneficial, long-lasting, and positively impacts the environment. Such efforts align with our shared vision to become high-income nations by 2045.”
During the event, Indonesian artists will showcase traditional dances such as the None Kembang dance from Jakarta, symbolizing the transition from adolescence to adulthood; the Zapin Lenggang Kipas dance from Riau Province, representing cultural identity and progress with educational and spiritual elements; and the Marbonatoan dance from North Sumatra Province. These performances will offer Vietnamese audiences a deeper appreciation of Indonesia’s cultural and artistic beauty.
A special highlight of the event will be the duet performance of the song “Bèo dạt mây trôi” by Miss Cosmo 2024 Indonesia Ketut Permata Juliastrid and Miss Cosmo 2023 Vietnam Bùi Thị Xuân Hạnh. The presence of these beauty queens will not only add allure to the festival but also vividly illustrate the enduring cooperative relationship between the two nations.
The program will conclude with a performance introducing Vietnam’s traditional Đờn ca tài tử music, creating a rich, culturally immersive atmosphere and further enhancing the cultural exchange between the two countries.
The Indonesia-Vietnam Festival Week will run from November 22–23, 2024, at the Ho Chi Minh City Children’s Cultural House. It will continue at the Binh Duong Conference and Exhibition Center on November 24, 2024.
